Get Your AC Checked Before The First 100° Day — Not During.

A real tune-up isn't a sticker and a handshake. It's a 27-point inspection, refrigerant pressure check, coil rinse, electrical test, and a written report — so you know exactly what shape your system is in before summer hits.

Urgency

High in March–May — slots fill up fast before summer

In plain English — what's going on with your ac tune-up

Every AC system in San Antonio loses a little performance every year. Capacitors weaken, coils get dirty, refrigerant slowly leaks, drain lines partially clog. None of it shows up on a 75° day in March — but the first 102° afternoon in July is when all of it suddenly matters.

A spring tune-up catches the problems while they're still cheap. A $200 capacitor caught in March is a $200 fix. The same capacitor failing on a Saturday in August is a $200 fix plus an after-hours fee plus three days of misery.

Our $99 spring tune-up includes a full 27-point check, condenser coil rinse, electrical test, refrigerant pressure check, drain line flush, blower inspection, thermostat calibration, and a written report. The $99 is also applied as credit toward any repair we find.

What it costs in San Antonio

$99Spring promo price. Includes coil rinse and full inspection. Credit applied to any repairs needed. Our $59 diagnostic is waived when you approve the repair, so you only pay for the fix itself.

Symptoms you'll notice at home

If two or more of these sound familiar, it's probably your ac tune-up.

You haven't had the AC checked in over a year
Last summer the system struggled on the hottest days
Electric bill has been creeping up year over year
You just bought the house and don't know the system's history
AC is more than 5 years old (most problems start in this window)
You want to catch problems before August when techs are slammed

Why ac tune-ups fail in San Antonio

  • Texas heat is hard on every part — annual maintenance is what manufacturers require for warranty.
  • Most repair calls in July/August are problems that were obvious in March.
  • Refrigerant leaks slowly and you don't notice until performance falls off a cliff.
  • Capacitors weaken predictably over 5–7 years — easy to catch and replace cheap.
  • Drain lines clog gradually — flushing once a year prevents water damage.

How we diagnose and replace it

Here's exactly what a Carnes and Sons tech does at your house — no mystery, no upselling.

  1. 1

    Outdoor unit inspection and rinse

Check refrigerant levels, test capacitor and contactor, measure compressor amp draw, rinse the condenser coil.

  2. 2

    Indoor coil and blower inspection

Open the air handler, photograph the evaporator coil, check blower wheel and motor, measure static pressure and temperature split.

  3. 3

    Electrical and controls

Test thermostat operation, check disconnect, inspect contactor and relays, verify all safety switches work.

  4. 4

    Drain system and written report

Flush the condensate drain line, treat the pan, check float switches. You get a written report with photos, readings, and any recommended repairs ranked by urgency.

AC Tune-Up questions San Antonio homeowners actually ask

How much is an AC tune-up in San Antonio?

$99 for our standard spring tune-up. That includes a condenser coil rinse, full inspection, electrical test, refrigerant pressure check, drain flush, and a written report.

When should I get a tune-up?

Late February through May is ideal — before the heat hits and while tech availability is good. We also offer fall tune-ups in October/November for heat pumps.

Will you try to sell me a bunch of repairs?

No. Our tune-up ends with a written report and photos so you can see exactly what we found. We rank repairs by urgency — what has to happen now versus what can wait. No high-pressure sales pitch, period.

Do I need a tune-up every year?

Yes. Manufacturers require annual maintenance for the warranty to stay valid. More importantly, every part on your system ages — annual tune-ups catch the weak spots before they fail.

What's the difference between a tune-up and a maintenance plan?

A tune-up is one visit. Our maintenance plan ($199/yr) includes two visits (spring AC, fall heat), priority scheduling, no after-hours fees, 15% off repairs, and a 5% loyalty credit toward future replacement.

How long does a tune-up take?

60 to 90 minutes for a single-system home. Multi-system homes take longer. We do not rush tune-ups — a 15-minute 'check' is not a tune-up.

Will a tune-up actually lower my electric bill?

Often yes. A clean coil, properly charged refrigerant, and clean blower can drop AC runtime 10–25%. Customers regularly see $40–$80/month savings in summer.

What if you find a problem?

We tell you, show you photos, give you a written price, and let you decide. The $99 tune-up cost gets credited toward any repair you approve.
